Easy Banana Cake Recipe

This is an updated version of a Brown Butter Frosted Banana Cake. That cake was good and all, but, this version is better. Plus you save some time not having to brown butter. You still can if you like. Just brown the butter for the frosting, let it cool completely then make the frosting as instructed. Brown Butter was very IN back in 2012 when I originally posted this recipe 😆

What Is The Difference Between Banana Bread And Banana Cake

Banana Cake is sweeter than banana bread. Even more so because banana cake is topped with frosting.

So while we may be able to get away with calling banana bread a breakfast or snack, this banana cake is most definitely dessert.

  1. Made this today. I opted out the walnuts and added mini chocolate chips. Cake is very moist and delicious. This was my first try of making the butter frosting. Nice flavors !! I liked the foil liner trick. Worked like a charm.

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed this cake! The chocolate chips sound like a wonderful addition … I’ll have to keep that in mind for next time.

    1. Hi Nicole! Thanks so much for the kind words and for stopping by 🙂

  2. This cake is AMAZING! I’ve made it a few times and it’s my husbands new FAVORITE! I’m here today because it’s Father’s Day and I wanted to make him a special treat! Today, I added some peanutbutter in the frosting and it tastes SO AMAZING! Peanutbutter and banana are one of his favorite combos so I think he’s going to love it even more this way! It should taste AWESOME!

    1. Oh my gosh Heather … adding peanut butter to the frosting is a brilliant idea! Anyone that loves the PB & Banana combo would be in heaven. I’m so glad you and the hubby like the cake. It is definitely one of my all time favorites!

  3. Hi…this cake looks so delicious and moist. Do you think it would make any difference to use 1 cup of Greek yogurt vice 1/2 cup sour cream and 1/2 cup yogurt? It seems to me, it would not make a difference, but I would love your opinion. I always substitute non-fat Greek yogurt anytime a recipe calls for sour cream…. Thank you very much.

    1. Hi Shelly! I’m so glad you like this cake, it is one of my all-time favorites! Yes, you can definitely use 1 cup Greek yogurt and omit the sour cream. I made this cake two weeks ago and used only Greek yogurt. I added a note to the recipe but it is probably easily overlooked. I stopped buying sour cream and have been using Greek yogurt for everything that calls for sour cream as well. So far it has never made a difference. Thanks and Enjoy! 🙂

  4. Fabulous recipe! A new favorite at my house. I initially made this b/c I had bananas that were brown. We loved it, and so did my coworkers! So I made this for my Mom’s birthday party and it was a huge hit!! I heard family asking Mom where we bought it and they could hardly believe that I MADE it. I got so many compliments!

    1. I’m so glad that all of your friends and family love this cake! This is definitely one of my family’s favorites too!
