Cooking Whole Shrimp With Heads

Cooking whole shrimp does not need to be intimidating. Having your dinner stare at you can be unsettling. But cooking shrimp with the heads on achieves a much more flavorful dish.

And some people like to twist the heads off and suck the juice out when eating whole shrimp. I leave that up to you, I’m not a big fan personally.

Cleaned de-shelled shrimp are great. But cooking shrimp with the heads on is so much more flavorful. Eating whole shrimp is also more of an experience as well as being a show-stopper party dish.

  • Whole Shrimp
  • White Wine
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Garlic
  • Salt/Pepper
  • Lemons
  • Parsley
  • Dried Red Chili Flakes

How To Cook Whole Shrimp With The Heads On

  1. Preheat oven to 400ºF
  2. Heat large oven safe pan over medium/high.
  3. Add wine to pan, simmer for 1-2 minutes or until liquid decreases by half. Add butter, garlic, salt and pepper. Stir and sauté for 1 minute. Add shrimp and lemons to pan. Toss until coated in butter mixture.
  4. Transfer pan to oven and roast 15-20 minutes or until pink and cooked through. Toss twice during cook time. Broil on high the last 2-3 minutes for a little char (optional).
  5. Serve topped with fresh chopped parsley and red chili flakes.

  • 2.5 Lbs Whole Shrimp
  • 1/2 Cup White Wine
  • 8 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • 4 Garlic Cloves - grated
  • Salt/Pepper - to taste
  • 2 Lemons - quartered
  • Handful Fresh Parsley - finely chopped
  • Pinch Dried Red Chili Flakes

Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 400ºF
