CRAB CAKES IN AIR FRYER

These crab cakes are simple and allow the sweet lump crab to shine. These even have a slightly healthy twist because they are cooked right in your air fryer.

If you prefer to pan fry your crab cakes, feel free to do so. Just heat oil in a skillet over medium/high heat then pan fry the crab cakes to golden brown on each side.

Can I use other types of crab meat?
Lump crab is the meat from the crab’s back legs (it is typically more flavorful than the other parts of the crab). Lump crabmeat will make for the best crab cakes.

Storage Instructions:
Store in an air-tight container in the fridge. Eat within 2-3 days.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 16 ounces lump crab meat (I used Philip’s brand from Costco)
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
  • Lemon wedges and tartar sauce for serving

Instructions

    1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the panko crumbs, egg and Worcestershire sauce, and let sit until the panko has absorbed the liquid.
    2. Add mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon zest, mustard, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and cayenne pepper to mixture then stir until smooth.
    3. Gently fold the crab and green onions into the mayonnaise mixture and mix until well combined.
    4. Using a large 3-tablespoon cookie scoop, create 8 equal-sized rounded portions and gently flatten them into ½-inch thick patties. Chill for at least 1 hour.
    5. Preheat the air fryer and spray the tops of the patties with a light misting of oil.
    6. Place crab cakes in the air fryer basket. Air fry for 15 minutes at 370ºF, flip at the halfway mark.
    7. Remove the crab cakes from the air fryer with a soft silicone flipper so as not to damage them and place them on a platter. Squeeze lemon over top and serve with tartar sauce.
